Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

The air temperature doesn't change much as the balloon ascends in altitude, so dress for the appropriate weather outside. Dress as if you were going for a hike. We do advise to avoid synthtic fibers like nylon and spandex. We recommend clothing made of cotton, denim, or wool (jeans and a t-shirt). No flip flops, crocs, or dress shoes. Wear a comfortable pair of sneakers or hiking boots. We also recommend a hat because the burner gives off a small amount of radiant heat.

How long does my balloon ride take?

The balloon ride itself usually last for about 1 hour, but it takes time to assemble and disassemble the balloon. The entire experience usually takes about 3-4 hours from the time we meet before flying until you are returned to your vehicle.

Why do you only offer sunrise and sunset flights?

Ballooning is a weather dependent activity that relies mostly on calm wind conditions. Wind tends to be calmest and most predictable just after sunrise and just before sunset.

Is smoking allowed?

We ask all our passengers to refrain from smoking when around the balloon. If they absolutely need to smoke, we ask them to please stand back at least 100 feet as to prevent any fires or damage to the equipment. The balloon is propelled using propane which is highly flammable. The balloon fabric is also susceptible to burns from from stray sparks or ashes.

Do you need a license to fly a balloon?

Yes. Just as with any aircraft, balloon pilot licenses are issued through the FAA. All pilots are required to pass a written exam, an oral exam, and a practical exam to obtain their license.

Is there a bathroom on board?

While there are no onboard facilities, we usually stop at a restroom on our way to the launch site to accomodate everybodies needs.
